PRESS RELEASE : LIMCAF CELEBRATES WORLD ART DAY 2024

As the world unites to celebrate the profound impact of art on human society, Life in My City Art Festival (LIMCAF), proudly joins in this commemoration, amplifying the voices of emerging artists and spotlighting the vibrant tapestry of artistic expression especially within Nigeria.

In a statement, the Art Director, of LIMCAF, Dr Ayo Adewunmi, first of all pays tribute to the festival’s sponsors past and present, including the MTN Foundation, Enugu State Government, Ford Foundation and Ghanaian-born Emeritus Professor, El Anatsui. He noted that World Art Day serves as an annual reminder of the universal language of art transcending geographical, cultural, and linguistic barriers, to foster connections and understanding among diverse communities.

Dr Adewumni recalled that for seventeen years, LIMCAF had been a consistent promoter of these attributes of art in Nigeria particularly through its young patrons from all part of Nigeria. For them and for the entire nation, LIMCAF has been an empowering glue touching the lives of aspiring young artists from all geographical zones of the country absolutely on merit.

He noted that hundreds of young men and women without discrimination as to gender or ethnicity, have been enabled to showcase their artworks, win handsome prizes, sell their artistic productions, and provided sponsorship for international travel and learning experience.

Dr Adewumni also proudly noted that the theme of this year’s World Day of Art, “a Garden of Expression” encapsulates the ethos of LIMCAF, through which its annual themes enable young people to freely express themselves on their lived environment.

Looking ahead, Dr Adewumni promised, on behalf of the Festival’s Trustees and Organizing Committee, to stay dedicated to the cultivation of an environment for the advancement of artistic education and excellence in the context of Nigerian’s rich cultural heritage while embracing and staying faithful to contemporary trends in the global Artspace. In addition, he promised that LIMCAF will remain committed to the promotion of other forms of the arts and other forms of cultural expression as a veritable tool for social development.
